Finally there is some activity at the building site again! A masonry crew from Heymann showed up today and started prepping forms for the sidewalks on the west side of the building, and also for a sidewalk under the carport arch. A carpenter was also here and got a start on caulking the control joints in the brick walls.
The masons finished the work on the replacement brick arch today. It needs to be washed yet obviously, but it looks much better now. Heiderscheidt was back today as well to prep the west side of the site for the rest of the sidewalks.
Here’s the finished product from the second try:
As opposed to the first try. There’s a big difference:
Sorry for the lack of updates lately. The project has not been going smoothly. The masons were not provided with a form to put up the brick arch in the end of the carport, and as a result, the first one didn’t turn out. They took down the old one and are now in the process of rebuilding it with the proper wooden form.
The masons came back late this afternoon to install the cornerstone. They will be here for the rest of the week washing the exterior masonry. The stucco crew from Northwest Drywall is scheduled to come next Thursday (May 26) to start working on the carport stucco. We still don’t have a definite plan from Gag yet as to when they will come and finish the roof. They said possibly next week as well.
The masons finished with the bulk of their work today. The carport brick is finally done! They also filled in the old social room door on the west side of the link.
The masons started working on the brick arch in the end of the carport today. They are only able to lay up a certain amount of brick in a day in the arch to avoid sagging of the mortar in the arch.
We now have the certificate of temporary occupancy from the city for the the north entry. What this means is that the addition will now be open on weekends for Masses, but closed during the week, due to the fact that the carport isn’t finished yet. As a result of the fact that the building will be closed during the week, Perpetual Adoration will remain in the temporary chapel in the back of the church for the time being. Please pass along this information to those who don’t read this blog.
The roofers were back yesterday and got some of the corner flashing and fascia installed on the chapel apse roof. They also got the copper flashing installed around the plumbing vent for the new sacristy bathroom.
The pews from the convent chapel were brought out from storage today and placed in the new chapel. They still need to be cleaned up a bit.
Things have been rather slow at the site lately. The masons have been busy washing walls. They were short some stone to finish the end of the carport and had to order more, so we are back to waiting again while that order is completed. We have no idea where the roofers are. We have been requesting that they come and work on the roof when the weather is decent, but to no avail.
